TrestleBoards inside your LMS

Now in pilot: we’re looking for a few schools to be first. Add TrestleBoards to Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard or D2L Brightspace with LTI 1.3. The board opens right on the course page, and learners join with their school name. No second login and no new accounts.

Works with

Built for LTI 1.3

LTI 1.3 is the standard way learning platforms connect to tools. TrestleBoards is built to the LTI 1.3 standard, with Deep Linking, for these four and other platforms that support it.

In pilot: we test each school’s setup with them before learners use it. TrestleBoards is not yet 1EdTech certified.

How it works

Set up once, then any teacher can add a board

Your LMS administrator does step 1 once. After that, adding a board is part of building a course.

  1. Your LMS admin pastes one link

The LMS registers TrestleBoards by itself (LTI Dynamic Registration). Admins can also add it by hand with the standard LTI 1.3 settings, which we send you.

  2. Teachers add a board to any course

From the LMS’s own “add external tool” or “add activity” menu. Each placement gets its own board, and it’s the same board every time learners open it.

  3. Everyone works together

Learners join under their own names and change their own items. Teachers can tidy the whole board, run a timer and star voting, and save it as a PDF.

What learners and teachers get

Made for courses

No second login

The LMS tells TrestleBoards who each person is and whether they’re a teacher or a learner. Nobody makes an account.

Teacher controls

Teachers get the host tools on their course boards: tidy anything, pause the board, show results, clear it for the next term.

Participation in the gradebook

When a placement is set up to be graded, taking part on the board can send a participation mark back to the LMS gradebook.

Opens where it works best

Some browsers limit tools shown inside another site. If that happens, learners get a one-click button to open the board in its own tab.

All 60 templates included

KWL charts, exit tickets, Venn diagrams, rubrics, gallery walks and more, grouped by type and ready for class activities.

Safe for students

Rude words are hidden, teachers can add their own words to hold for review, and anyone can report a note.

Student privacy

Your school stays in charge of student information

For schools we act as a service provider. We use student information only to run TrestleBoards for the school, never for advertising, and we don’t build profiles of students.

  • We receive only a learner’s name, role and course from the LMS
  • Every connection uses HTTPS
  • We support schools’ obligations under FERPA and COPPA
  • A school can ask us to delete its students’ information at any time

The pilot

Be one of the first schools

TrestleBoards for LMSs is built and tested, and we’re now setting it up with our first schools. Pilot schools get:

Hands-on setup

We work with your LMS administrator to connect TrestleBoards and check it in a test course before learners use it.

Free during the pilot

There’s no cost while TrestleSuite is in development.

Questions

Common questions

Is it ready to use?

It’s in pilot. It’s built on the LTI 1.3 standard and tested, and we’re setting it up with a small number of schools first so each one gets careful help. Join the pilot and we’ll be in touch.

What does it cost?

TrestleBoards in your LMS is free while TrestleSuite is in development, including during the pilot.

Do learners need an account?

No. The LMS signs them in. They open the board from the course and start working.

Can two classes share a board?

Each placement in a course has its own board. To use one board with several groups, share its link with them instead.

What do you need from us to set it up?

Tell us which LMS you use and who your LMS administrator is. We’ll send the registration link or the settings to add by hand.
